Hyperlocal WikiCity Features Wahoo, NE!

Saunders County Fair Parade

Wahoo is a city in Saunders County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 3,942 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Saunders County, the location of the “home office” that produces the top-10 list for David Letterman’s Late Show, and is an all-around haven for small town FUN!.

For more information about Wahoo, check out the Wahoo Answers page. Held for Ransom, Needs Funding

WikiLeaks has temporarily suspended its operations, citing funding problems as the reason for why the site is no longer operationally available.  Instead, the staff has decided to close the site while it focuses on its fundraising efforts.

Wikileaks is a website that published anonymous submissions and leaks of sensitive governmental, corporate, organizational, or religious documents, while attempting to preserve the anonymity and untraceability of its contributors. The site is of course a wiki (one of our fav’s), which brilliantly offers anonymous tip-offs and submissions regarding sensitive information.  The closure comes as a bit of a suprise because the technical costs to actually run a wiki are relatively nominal, and as WikiLeaks’ home page suggests, most of the $600K needed will be spent on staffing – not the direct costs related to web hosting.  As such it seems that WikiLeaks could have continued operations while launching its fundraising campaign.  Wikileaks states in its website that it will resume full operation once the operational costs have been covered.  Of course, had they done so, we probably wouldn’t be talking about WikiLeaks and its need for funds.  Regardless, please consider helping fund the randsom note so that this terrific site can return to the mainstream.

Hyperlocal WikiCity Guides Features Red Wing, MN

Red Wing is a city in Goodhue County, Minnesota, United States, on the Mississippi River. The population was 16,116 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Goodhue County. Red Wing is famous as the home of Red Wing Shoe Company Inc, the Riedell Ice and Roller Skates, and also for its Red Wing Stoneware Company. The Cannon Valley Trail has its eastern terminus in Red Wing. Treasure Island Resort & Casino is located on the nearby Prairie Island Indian Reservation. The National Trust for Historic Preservation placed Red Wing on its 2008 distinctive destinations list, which adds 12 communities annually nationwide. Red Wing was added for its “impressive architecture and enviable natural environment.” Red Wing is connected to Wisconsin by Red Wing Bridge.

WikiCity Guides Goes Mobile!

Hyperlocal mobile is all the rage (and for good reason), and today, we proudly announce that the WikiCity Guides has followed suit.  Although we know we’re just scratching the surface, our mobile platform allows anyone to access WikiCity in a more concise and efficient manner.  Plenty of big ideas to follow, so stay tuned! Launches This Morning

Recently the Omaha World-Herald purchased the WikiCity Project to further expand its diversified on-line ventures.  Today, they’ve done it again with the launch of Momaha.  Moms (and yes, dads too) can find recipes, kid items for sale, blogs from moms and dads, a calendar of family friendly events (and we need people to post their events on our calendar, too!), advice from people like pediatricians, a forum to discuss anything and everything and much more.

Congratulations to the entire Momaha team!
